Fall 2022: When Burnt Orange is Actually Peach
Educational Post Alert!
Keep reading below...
One of the Fall 2022 trends I continue to see is a muted color palette to create just a touch of boho. The mustard colors and burnt oranges – stunning. It really is a great autumn feel.
Now here's the catch. Those muted yellow and dusty orange flowers I keep seeing in inspiration photos…they don't exist. That is, they don't exist to the naked eye. Instead, the colors are created through an editing style that a handful of photographers use.
Kelsey from Maiko Media (who took the photo below) considers her style “mood with muted colors.” It’s a fabulous photo.
Compare it to a similar bouquet by Kayla Knies Photography (see below) who uses a bright and airy photography style. See the ranunculus in both bouquets? Same flower. It’s actually considered “peach.” And the eucalyptus? You guessed it. Those are the same color too.
Not sure what a ranunculus is? Check out the bottom of this post for a close up side by side!
Below is another example. This time you can see the difference from Maiko Media’s photo to a photo taken from my phone. In Maiko Media’s photo, the eucalyptus and greenery look a little greyer and the gerberas are almost a burnt orange.
To give you a better feel of the colors, below is a close up of the same arch flowers.
This moody editing style even makes a difference with white flowers. Can you see the color difference in the white roses, eucalyptus, and blue thistle?
My point of this entire post is to educate. The last thing I want is for you to be disappointed on your wedding day. Know the look you want, and know the role of your florals and photographer to accomplish that look – both what you’ll see on your wedding day and what you’ll see in your memory book for years to come. Your initial floral consultation is a perfect time to discuss. While your florist can suggest some flower that might help create this aesthetic, keep in mind that the inspiration photo you found on Pinterest likely won’t match what you’ll see in person on your wedding day…though I’m positive you’ll still love the final result! My biggest piece of advice is that if you like this moody, muted look, make sure to book a photographer who edits using this style. Need help finding one? I have some great recommendations! You saw one of them in this post.
Below is the side by side comparison of ranunculus. Same flower in the same color.
